Hyde Park was Austin's first planned subdivision. The house at Avenue H was built in 1922, and it was built around a Burr Oak tree that was already old. Mark Cravotta has lived here with his daughters. This is his own home.
There is no client to answer to. The constraints of living with the work every day, of seeing every decision in every light across every season, produce a standard that no commission fully replicates. What you see here is what the firm's principal actually chooses when he is choosing only for himself.
Original elements sit alongside considered additions. Nothing is precious. Everything is intentional. The house holds its history lightly and wears thirty years of a life in design without showing the effort.
