There’s a standard we hold ourselves to that most people never see.

It lives in the judgment we bring to every decision. In knowing the difference between right and almost right, and never settling for the latter. In the custom piece we design because nothing that exists is quite right. In thirty years of never walking away from a problem.

The Firm

Cravotta Interiors is an Austin-based design studio founded in 1996, serving residential and boutique hospitality clients nationwide. Every designer can walk the same showrooms. The difference is in the eye, the hands, and the thirty years of judgment behind every decision.

We bring a maker’s background to everything we do. When the right piece doesn’t exist, we design and build it. When something is almost right but not quite, we keep going. The standard isn’t negotiable.

Our best projects are the ones where you walk in and nothing announces itself. Where everything just belongs. Private homes, penthouse residences, original restaurant commissions. Every project is different. The standard behind each one is not.

Mark Cravotta

Founder & Creative Director

Mark has been building things with his hands as long as he can remember. Jewelry, ceramics, textiles, construction, cars rebuilt from the frame up. He founded Cravotta Interiors in 1996, starting with a drapery workroom where everything was made by hand. The tools and the business have evolved, but the maker’s eye is still at the center of everything the firm does.

That background isn’t biography. It’s methodology. Understanding how things are actually made changes what a designer can see and what they’re willing to accept. Mark has never been willing to accept almost right.

He has been based in Austin since 1985. He owns and lives in a house he’s rebuilt by hand. He designs the same way he lives: with a maker’s eye, a long memory, and a standard that doesn’t change.
