A midlife couple designing their forever home wanted a space that held everything they had become: modern, organic, rooted in years of world travel. Read more
Architect Gregory Brooks designed this Zilker residence in Douglas fir and concrete, clean geometry, deliberate and cool. The clients were entering a new chapter and wanted their home to reflect everything they had accumulated: decades of world travel, a love of organic materials, a desire for something modern that still felt alive and grounded.
Luminous green runs through the palette, warm and unexpected against the raw materiality of the building. Antique Sultanabad rugs and Moroccan textiles sourced from the markets of Marrakech bring age and distance into a home built for the present. A custom walnut-and-steel desk anchors the study.
The whole space has the quality of a treehouse: elevated, sheltered, connected to the outside world without being exposed to it.
